MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – According to Google, Steampunk is the most searched for interior design style in the United States.
This comes after analysis of Google’s top trending searches, which include searches that had a high spike in traffic over a sustained period of time this year as compared to 2022.
The Steampunk style has roots in the Victorian era, making it both old-fashioned and modern, according to Rustica, a source for designer doors and hardware.
“Its design is very mechanical, almost industrial, employing materials such as polished brass, iron, wood and leather. It can be thought of as pseudo-Victorian because of its upcycled love of the old, the repaired, the reworked and the imperfect,” according to the Rustica website.
The other four top design styles include maximalist, modern, minimalist and California coastal.
Other design styles that saw an increase in search traffic include Brutalist, Boho chic, French country, Art Deco and beach.
When it comes to architecture the top searched style is Modern, followed by Creole, Craftsman, Neolithic and Second Empire.
Rounding out the top 10, the other most searched styles include Mid-century, French Baroque, Italian Villa, Contemporary and Bauhaus.
